Nice view from the large deck, but the rest of the setting was pretty sterile and business like. The building felt like a large gift shop with a wine tasting counter in the middle. The samples were served in plastic cups, and when asked about getting them in a glass the lady said that glasses are $3. No food was available, as the kitchen shut down at 3:00 that day. Wine was pretty good, but there's not a compelling reason to go back.

It's a shame really. This place had breathtaking views and decent wine but the service was pure garbage. I came with my family and we paid for wine tasting. We waited for a while. A server made eye contact several times, but we didn't get a hello or I'll be right with you, nothing. Instead he decided to serve the other guests that came after us. We got tired of waiting so we went to the other side to see if that server would at least say hello. It's not like you can't tell that someone paid for a wine tasting. They give you these green chips so that the servers know. Anyways, this server finally said hello. The other server who had ignored us took our chips and didn't ask us what we'd like to sample. Guess they don't make them wear name tags so you can't call them out on here. Makes sense, they don't have to worry if they treat you like you don't matter. Finally, when most of the other guests left they decided to start giving us samples. There are plenty of wineries in this area, their website might not be as impressive as Montelle Winery's, but you can't get worse service than this. I can't even imagine what that would look like. Save yourself some embarrassment and bring your family elsewhere.

I would rate higher most likely if I hadn't gone on a Saturday. For sure try this place on a weekday. View is cool, wine is a bit fruity for my tastes. Very commercial feel/environment. When doing the tasting guy was quite affect numb aka lacking customer friendly. Wasn't rude by any means. I'll try it again because the ice wine was amazing.

The wine is great and so is the view. Staff is friendly. My only complaints are somewhat minor yet annoying. It's been years since I last visited here, but they no longer allow food or coolers to be brought here. The wine is twice as more expensive here at it's place of origin than say purchasing it at the grocery store. I have been coming here for many years and I agree with another reviewer. It has a commercial feeling to it now. Come here on a weekend and its packed. Also they have started charging 5 dollars for taste testing up to 5 selections.

We were at Montelle on Sat, 10-7 with friends. We go every year and many time buy a case which we did this year also. The grand experience each year has seemed to have ended. We have told so many people about such a great time and how wonderful the people treat you. This time we were reminded several times by the guard at the door and the tasting area server of all the rules. They have moved from excellent, friendly service for customers to rules in your face for themselves. Sad!!
