The park has camping sites, picnic sites, fishing and hiking trails. You can access the park from the Katy Trail.
Camped here on multiple occasions. Getting a spot (at least during the fall months) can be tricky, particularly if you need 2 adjacent, so plan a few months ahead. Since there's no RV/trailer camping, it stays relatively quiet. Nice serene lake, decent hiking trail, access to Katy Trail. Only drawback is the unsightly (especially at night) Ameren plant directly across the Missouri.
Fantastic park and short hikes when you want to take a respite from the wineries in Augusta. Make sure to hike the white sand beach and hike up to the viewpoint.
This park is an excellent example of turning an old mining pit into a beautiful, useful park! I especially love visiting in autumn!
Beautiful campground and well maintained. However, park rangers harassed us and accused us of stealing firewood, moving boulders (clearly placed by machines) , and drinking and partying when neither myself nor my girlfriend do either all because we pulled my truck up to a campsite on a gravel path to unload. The male and female ranger seemed unstable at best. Would love to come back but we will not be doing anything in St. Charles County again. Extremely eerie and unsafe feeling.
